Seemingly, 99% of inspectors allow Generac (TCER) cable to be ran on the outside of a home, much like aluminum service cable.

One inspector requires it to be installed inside conduit/flex.  Obviously, I was not to happy to have to expend the extra trip, labor and materials to tear-out and re-install.

Different AHJ interpretations of the code in different local jurisdictions is quite impossible to manage for us contractors.

Seeking comments on:

1) General consensus on Generac Cable.

2) How to tighten up "interpretation" of NEC by inspectors.

Art.336.10 (8) & (9) does provide the installation requirements for

Type TC-ER cable. I would ask the AHJ to explain his reasoning for requiring it to be run inside conduit/flex.

I am not sure what you are asking by tighten up "interpretation" by inspectors. Words have meaning's and by inspectors supplying the code where they are requesting code compliance/enforcement should help. I would say most all AHJ should cite the code violation(s) in their write-up or explain when questioned.  99% of the time i supply the code violation and by doing this get almost zero pushback.
